What Are Biostimulators
Biostimulators are injectables that prompt your body to make new collagen. We offer two FDA-approved options. Sculptra® is made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and builds volume gradually over a series of sessions. Radiesse® is made from calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres in a smooth gel, giving some immediate lift and contour while it stimulates collagen over time.
How They Work
Rather than filling a line directly, biostimulators stimulate your skin to produce its own collagen. Over time, this rebuilds structure and improves firmness and skin quality. The material is slowly absorbed by the body, leaving behind your own new collagen, which is why results look natural and last longer than many traditional fillers.
What to Expect
Treatment takes about 30–45 minutes. Sculptra® usually involves two to three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, with improvement appearing over two to three months. Radiesse® often needs just one or two sessions, with some lift right away and continued improvement as collagen builds. Mild swelling, tenderness or bruising can occur and usually settle within a few days.

Treatment Sessions
Sculptra® typically takes two to three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart; Radiesse® often takes one or two. Each visit takes about 30–45 minutes.

Any initial swelling settles within a few days. With Sculptra®, gentle massage at home helps results settle evenly as new collagen forms.

Sculptra® and Radiesse® are typically mixed with or contain lidocaine, and topical numbing can be applied. Most clients feel mild pressure and pinching.

Minimal. Swelling, tenderness and bruising may occur and typically resolve within a few days.

Results develop gradually. Sculptra® can last two years or more, and Radiesse® typically lasts a year or longer. Many clients choose a yearly touch-up to maintain them.

Hyaluronic acid fillers add volume immediately and can be dissolved. Biostimulators work by stimulating your own collagen, so results build gradually and last longer, and Radiesse® also gives some immediate lift. Unlike hyaluronic acid filler, biostimulators cannot be dissolved, which is why careful planning matters.

Common side effects include swelling, tenderness, redness and bruising. Small bumps under the skin can occur; following your aftercare instructions helps reduce this risk.

Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin.
Unless prescribed by your doctor, avoid NSAIDs (ibuprofen, aspirin), fish oil, ginkgo, St. John’s wort and high-dose vitamin E for one week to reduce bruising.
Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment.
Avoid retinoids for three days before treatment.
Clients who are pregnant or nursing are not eligible for treatment.

Sculptra®: follow the 5-5-5 rule: massage the area for five minutes, five times a day, for five days. Radiesse®: follow your provider’s guidance on whether to massage the area.
Avoid makeup for the rest of the day.
Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
Avoid extreme heat or cold for 48 hours.
Apply a cold compress as needed for swelling.
Avoid facials for two weeks.
